Illog The Well – P1 Winter 2016

Illog The Well – P1 Winter 2016

For the Winter Solstice I asked my spirit guides where I should go. In a dream I was given the name of a place to look for – “Llansantffraid“. Now, this seemed like a clear message, but Wales has a few options when it comes to places named in that way. The first option was the area close to where I had previously visited for the Autumn Equinox – the source of the River Wye near Rhyader. Dowsing revealed that this was not the one I was looking for this time. I have to admit I was surprised. When I looked for another candidate I found one close to the town of Oswestry. This WAS the area I needed to visit, and so I began to use the Megalithic Portal to see what was around that area. I found several sites (mainly wells) that I could visit, and...

Surrey 2 – The Deerhunter

Surrey 2 – The Deerhunter

In the second tale from my Surrey wanderings I was headed for Cockrow Bell Barrow [link]. This was at the very edge of Ockham Common, close to the junction of the M25 and A3. The air was clear and still. The coolness of the autumn morning was being tinged with a surprisingly warm sun, and the temperature fluctuated depending on whether you stood in the direct sunlight or the shade of what was left of a tree’s canopy. As I walked the paths of the common, heading vaguely for the M25, not neccessarily by the most direct route, I found that I was being followed across the common by some large shapes. Two cows had decided they wanted a drink from a water trough that appeared unexpectedly int he midst of some woodland close to the roar of the M25 traffic. On my...

Surrey 1 – The Jack Temple Circle

Surrey 1 – The Jack Temple Circle

In the first of six stories about a recent trip to autumnal Surrey I begin with a recounting of a visit to a modern stone circle. All of the ancient circles which may once have been raised in Surrey have been destroyed, but there are two modern circles which were of interest to me. The first one that struck me was one created by the master dowser and healer Jack Temple. I had come across Jack Temple when dowsing at a house for a client. The lady of the house had herself once done some dowsing for health purposes, and she had met and was tutored by Mr Temple. When I discovered that I was in the West Byfleet area for a few days I made the site of his finest creation the first stop on my tour. Irrespective of its modernity, I was curious to see whether there was any...

The Thin Veil – Samhain 2016

The Thin Veil – Samhain 2016

It’s Samhain, or Halloween and I’m travelling to Valle Crucis Abbey in Llangollen in the heart of the night. The idea is that I will meet with Cailleach and Duignan to take advantage of the thin veil between the Middle Earth and The Underworld. If you need a “catch up” on these two “personalities” then here’s a link with keywords for each: Cailleach ¦ Duignan As I drive towards the town, down weaving flowing dark roads that I know so well, I hear a phrase which I don’t understand the relevance of at that time. The phrase which repeats itself is “ready or not“, and it is sung in the style in which The Fugees did that track a while ago: “Ready or not, here I come. You can’t hide. Gonna find...

The Uneasy Chair – P2 – Autumn Equinox 2016

The Uneasy Chair – P2 – Autumn Equinox 2016

Autumn Equinox. A time I had promised myself a solitary journey to sit in Idris’ Chair – Cadair Idris – the lovely mountain whose shape reminds me of a sleeping dragon, curled up with his head pointing to the western shores of Wales. Having been to Dinas Emrys already, now came the time to climb. The day before I had been off work ill. I very rarely get ill, but it was a sneezing cold which I didn’t want to spread, and so I spent the day recovering. Now, in real terms, this was the way I felt I could recover properly – by filling my lungs to the very depths with fresh Welsh mountain air. I had everything ready – a bag with layers of clothing; candles and torches; incense and dowsing rods; snacks and water; a sleeping mat, a...

Back in the Ancestral Feasting Hall

Back in the Ancestral Feasting Hall

It is not very often that I get to work with the ancestors, and even less so that I work with other people. On this occasions I got to do both, and the results surprised me. I was at Conscious Camp, and there was a ceremony hosted by the delightful “Rainbow” (by name and nature). It involved the whole camp being invited ceremonially into the big tent and then began a long evocation of and dedication to the Earth Mother. During the ceremony we were asked to contact our ancestors, whoever we believed them to be. I didn’t have to think about that too much having already contacted them…. (wibbly wobbly dream time screen….) I settled into a meditation – not easy when you’re packed into a tent with a hundred other people. You...
